Hi there, we're back from skiing and snowboarding in Slovenia. We had a great time with our friends Mike, May, Steve and Julie and no one broke and bones or got any serious injuries - first objective complete! We also all enjoyed ourselves and improved and sliding-over-snow skills - second objective complete!
Kranjka Gora in north-west Slovenia is a beautiful little resort and a great place to spend a week. I especially loved the alpine scenery - I have missed having the mountains so close. Steve really took to the snowboarding and I have to admit, although I may have had a slight edge on him at the beginning, he'd certainly overtaken me by the end. He even took to filming himself coming down the slopes!
The hotel was great too. It had a swimming pool with warm bubble pool to relax in after a hard day on the slopes. Oh yes, and it also had a table tennis table, which I am ashamed to say, I couldn't beat Mike on all week.
We also went to Italy for an afternoon (5 minutes down the road) to go on a husky sleigh ride. We each had control of our own team of 5 dogs. Mike's tried to attack me as he couldn't keep them under control!
On the final day, our instructor took Steve and I and the rest of our group down the Men's World Cup Giant Slalom Run, twice. Steve asked, 'was that a black run?' The answer: 'Yes. very, very black!' The world cup is there next week, so look out for it! Steve also won a bronze medal on Friday night for being the third quickest adult snowboarder in the mini slalom race we all did (on a more gentle slope). I won't talk about my performance in the race - so don't ask! ;-)
Being back is a bit of a shock, but at least we have the memories and, of course, the photos! I'm sorting through them and will have them on flickr soon, so check back in a day or two!
And finally, the motto of the holiday was the motto of our snowboard instructor: 'Don't push it. Take it easy!'
It was a fantastic holiday - 10 out of 10!!!!! Unfortunately we're now back to reality which sucks. Great write up Tim - you just need to spell Kranjska Gora right! - See the world cup black run Tim and I went on at 8.00am next sunday (4th March) on Channel 4!

Wow, what a fantastic holiday with top quality friends! We all made it back in one piece – phew – and I cant wait 2 get back on the slopes again!
ReplyDeleteBetter a bad day on the snow than a good day in the office - that is what I say.
It was an excellent holiday bar omelette man really could have done with a second frying pan and the ratio of Friends “quotes” compared 2 hours in the day was very scary! Oh, and more time to eat my pre going out dinner in would have been good!
;-)
It wouldn't have been the same without the Friday night dinner rush, I'll never forget that!!!! Makes me laugh out loud right now just thinking about it! J x
ReplyDeleteYes, I should have included a line about Mike's eating habits. ha ha ha... T.
ReplyDeleteMike's eating habits - pah. I am a growing lad and need my food - which I couldnt finish because my "friends" kept making me laugh (and choke!)while I was under extreme pressure to eat as much as possible!
